1999–2001

Darin founded Live DJs in his house in San Francisco in 1999 and over the course of the next two years invited hundreds of US and Internsational DJs to play and broadcast their sets live. The initial setup alone cost over $100,000 with no sponsors or partners – all provided free to DJs and listeners.

Using 12 cameras, Live DJs streamed video of live DJ sets 24/7 over one of the first domestic ADSL lines installed in San Franciso. The 6 turntable DJ room was engineered to allow the 3 DJ stations to hear and control the volume of the other stations for perfect syncing. With this setup, Live DJs not only invented but perfected the concept of B2B DJ sets opening up a whole new world of mixing collaborations.
